Strange Tales? Extra-Terrestrials and Earth

Let’s be clear here – I have never personally seen or experienced any extra-terrestrial or alien event.

However, there are many recorded instances of extra-terrestrial / alien sightings and experiences. In fact there is a whole industry devoted to finding proof that aliens exist.

In addition, there is significant evidence that several, early Earth civilizations were aided by extra-terrestrials, or possibly even started by them.

Unfortunately the whole  extra-terrestrial / alien subject seems to attract more than its fair share of nutters. This means there is a mountain of dis-information to sort through to discern what the truth is likely to be.

The Case For Extra Terrestrials

Overall , I prefer to look at whether extra-terrestrials exist from a probability perspective – i.e. what are the maths involved here?

Firstly, for all practical purposes the Universe is infinite. There are billions of stars systems in just our own galaxy and there are billions of galaxies

Secondly, astronomers have already observed planets similar to Earth in star systems in other parts of our own galaxy (the Milky Way).

Therefore the probability is extremely high that sentient beings, possibly similar to us, have evolved on other planets, either in our galaxy or another one, simply because statistically, there are so many planets on which this evolution could have occurred.

What Might Extra Terrestrials Be Like?

In the context of our own galaxy, the solar system is located in the outer fringes and as such being a few billion years old, is ‘young’ compared to the star systems closer to the galactic core, which formed earlier in the evolution of the Universe.

In other words, if extra-terrestrial beings from star systems closer to the core of our galaxy do exist, they are likely to have evolved a long time before us, because their environment would have supported life much earlier.

So, if these extra-terrestrial civilizations managed to survive the self-destructive phase our own civilization is currently going through, they would now be technologically much more advanced than us, simply because they have had much more time to develop technologically. Therefore StarTrek-like technology and space travel are probably a normal part of their civilizations.

Alternatively, they may have developed with a different evolutionary/genetic drivers, and may not be prone to conflict and war like we are.

The next point is if they have survived through the military-industrial phase we are going through, they will most likely have evolved to a higher moral and ethical level than us. By definition, they probably  have a stronger moral and ethical foundation, otherwise they are likely to have destroyed themselves and/or their planet with their advanced technologies.

This is where the idea of a Galactic Confederation popularized in science fiction comes from.

Galactic Confederation

It is reasonable to postulate that advanced extra-terrestrial civilizations will have joined together to help each other and also to assist less developed civilizations such as ours through difficult evolutionary periods.

Some extra-terrestrial / alien watchers assert that a Galactic Confederation is in fact assisting Earth behind the scenes right now, because they know we are moving through a difficult period.

Note: It is also reasonable to postulate that there will be some negatively oriented extra-terrestrial civilizations that have overcome their self-destructive tendencies. These would then probably operate with negative intention towards less-developed civilizations such as ours. e.g. they may want our planet’s resources, gene pool etc.

Extra Terrestrials On Earth

A common assertion in extra-terrestrial stories is that aliens have been particularly active on Eaarth in recent times.

Alien technology may have been acquired by various Governments, either donated by extra-terrestrial or acquired via accidents. The Roswell crash is probably the best known incident where this could have occurred.
